Text Emily! The phrases "mailing it in" or "phoning it in" have been used interchangeably and were first used to describe someone who didn’t show up to work and instead mailed or phoned it in from afar. Nowadays a lot of us work virtually or remotely and may not have the need to be physically present, but where it gets sticky is when we get detached, lack care, find ourselves going through the motions, and doing the bare minimum. Checking boxes without enthusiasm or excitement. In this episode: What phoning it in is and isn't Where we might be tempted to show up lacklusterWhy we sometimes mail it inHow to bounce back and reinvigorate your approach And more! Links & Resources Mentioned: ✔️ My Strategy Sessions ✔️ Jenny Belanger's Website Design Made Simple Podcast Reflection Questions: Have I been mailing it in? Text Emily! Maybe you've convinced yourself that perfectionism is a good trait. I can definitely see that side of the coin too, trust me... It means you have high standards, attention to detail, care about quality, have a strong appreciation doing things "right". It might reflect your goal-oriented, task-focused, reliable, forward-thinking, innovative side as you constantly look to make things BETTER. And perfectionism can have some unwanted side effects: Procrastination, stopping you in the first place, causing you to question, doubt, overthink, second-guess, never share, never feel ready, never feel smart enough, good enough. It can strain relationships, take up a lot of energy, and can even lead to burnout.  What would happen if we turn down the noise of perfectionism just 1%? In the episode, we explore exactly that as we get into: Perfectionism defined by Julia Cameron in her book, The Artist's Way (p.119-120 quoted)The upsides and downsides of being perfectionistic Three types of perfectionism that show up in our business How perfectionism can show up in marketing, collaborations, relationships, and beyond!Covert and overt perfectionism 6 Ideas to help you turn it down 1% at a time And more! Journaling Prompt (from Julia Cameron's Book The Artist's Way) What would I do if I didn't have to do it perfectly? What would I say if I didn't have to say it perfectly? Consider: Anything worth doing might be worth doing imperfectly (even badly) at first. Resources Mentioned: Becoming 7% Better Experiment (Emily's Substack Article) Content with Character Episode: How to Stop People-Pleasing in Your MarketingAbout Me:I'm Emily Aborn, Content Copywriter, Speaker, and Podcast Host of Content with Character and She Built This. Text Emily! What do you do when you run out of steam? When you’ve tried and tried and tried to make something work, you’ve given it consistency, a considerable amount of time, energy, and effort, and it’s just NOT sticking!? What do you do when you’re just ready to move on, end an era, and let something GO? In this episode, we’re going to discuss exactly that! We often get excited and discuss new ideas, starting things, what’s next, what’s next, but we don’t always talk about the things we leave behind, the things we burn down along the way. So, buckle ye' olde seatbelt, THAT’s where we’re headed in this episode! In this episode: How the cycles of life inspire us to let go What era are you in? How do you know it's time to let something go? What are some ways to reinvigorate the steam? Things to try before you burn it down ROI isn't always financial 3 Rituals for letting go And more! Resources Mentioned: Aviva Romm's On Health Episode with Herbalist, Olivia Amitrano, "Seeing Life Through an Herbalist's Lens" She Built This Episode on Ending an Era (airs 7/24) Questions for You to Consider: Time - have you given it enough time, attention, and energy? Have you been consistent with your efforts with it?  Do you simply need to do it differently and mix it up?  Do you need professional help? A consultant? An additional set of ideas and eyeballs? Who can you bring in to help? Do you have unrealistic expectations and goals? Did you expect something to go a different way but it wasssss, admittedly, a little far-fetched? Was it even YOUR vision to begin with? What did you WANT this thing to do for you when you started it? Is it still doing that? Was it ever? Pausing - How does a break feel? Do you just need a break or a slow down to find energy and creativity and make space for it to breathe? Do you need to change something ELSE in your life to open up time, space, or energy? Are you focusing on the wrong thing as the problem, and ignoring the real problem? Is it aligned with your current direction - your current ERA? Are this and you going in the same direction? Text Emily! There are ZILLIONS of lessons I've learned as a business owner over the past decade and countless nuggets of advice I want to pour into those coming behind me and walking alongside me. But advice is a lot like opinions... Everyone has some AND they're not always relevant and applicable for you. While sparing you my advice, I'm sharing three things I wish I knew before I started as we spark up a conversation and reflect on some of the lessons learned along the way. In this episode: Don't forget to tell them who you are! Some of us know before we try, and some of us have to try to know - what to do if you're the latterThere are no shortcuts. Text Emily! Leave a Voicemail! Comparing ourselves to others can be exhausting and discouraging. People may give you advice to just unfollow, unsubscribe, stop the thoughts in their tracks, think "positive", or focus on all the things that make YOU great...But it's not always that easy to turn the beat around! And sometimes glossing over the experience can cause it to keep popping up again and again and again, rather than teach us to work through it and move to a more productive place. In this episode, I get into how we can move through comparison in a way that allows us to acknowledge and feel it, take action if needed, and bless and release. I don’t want you to compare yourself. I certainly don't want you to swim in the pool of comparison, and I'm going to help you find out you what it's good for! A personal story about a recent "compare and despair" momentWhat I learned about comparison and the information it can provide How to overcome and move through comparison with grace, compassion, gratitude, and action 3 Ways to reframe when you compare yourself 7 Ways to turn down the noise of comparison And more! Resource: Life's Enough - Stop Comparing ZenHabits.Net ArticleAbout Me: I'm Emily Aborn, Content Copywriter, Speaker, and Podcast Host of Content with Character and She Built This. Text Emily! Repurposing is for you as a content creator. It saves you time and helps you stop spinning your wheels as you take any one single piece of content and turn it into MORE! AND in addition to being hugely beneficial to you (and your sanity), it also helps increase your impact and reach others who may not be able to access your original format of content. Especially when it comes to audio, webinars, workshops, courses, and video content, repurposing can make it more accessible for others while spreading your message further and wider. In this episode, I cover: Celebrating the Content with Character first birthday: Feeling behind, celebrating our wins and milestones, how consistency pays off, and a big thanks to YOU for being on this journey with me! 🎉Why repurposing video content and audio is a unique and important step Ideas to take action on right away to repurpose audio content, video content, workshops, webinars, and even your next conversation/client call! And More! Resources Mentioned: Alesia Galati's Podcast Productivity Power Up: One Episode Endless Content Content with Character Episode on Repurposing Written Content 👉🏻 EXTENDED SHOW NOTES More on Content Repurposing:Repurpose Podcast Content Like Never BeforeRepurposing Blogs for Increased VisibilityRepurposing Content for Social MediaHow to Repurpose Content for Social MediaAbout Me:I'm Emily Aborn, Content Copywriter, Speaker, and Podcast Host of Content with Character and She Built This.
