Cuthbert.Today Liam and Paul open up with some small talk again on health, workouts and tattoos before diving into the Isles Covid troubles during the opening of UBS Arena and ahead of tonight's game against cross-town rivals, the Rangers. The guys then look to the cause of McDavid's point scoring streak coming to an end against the Stars, who looked real good in their 4-1 win, Sutter's Flames stay hot, thoughts on the Olympic sweaters for Canada and USA before Liam gives us the background of the Toronto Maple Leaf logo.Liam takes us back to "This Day in Hockey" to acknowledge Chris Chelios passing Phil Housley for career games played by American born players.The Irish Connection of the week features a story about Bobby Kirk who was born in Doagh, County Antrim, moved to Manitoba and in addition to a 12 year pro hockey run that featured a one year stint with the Rangers, won the 1957 Memorial Cup as a coach. We are talking about the one and only, Howard John Edward Young, better known as...….Howie Young. Liam shares some personal Gretzky memories and the boys talk about Wayne coming to the Big Apple during Messier's tenure with New York. The guys open up with how their keeping up, chat about Liam's new video blogging and Liam fills us in on what he's currently working on with former NHL'er Tony McKegney before telling us the "Sticks and Taps NHL Story of the Week."Is there a night that is regarded as the most violent in NHL history? Certainly several of the most noteworthy bench clearing brawls would be at or near the top of anybody's list. How about for one man only? On Saturday night November 23, 1929 the legend of Eddie Shore went to new heights. On today's show hear about his five altercations in a game against the Montreal Maroons who set out to put Shore in the hospital. Mayhem on ice is how the headline read the next day. Listen to Liam give the details of that blood filled night. Sticks and Taps Irish Song of the Week - Liam introduces us to "The Holy Ground."The Holy Ground has it's origin as a sea shanty song sung by the sailors as they came and went through the port of Cobh ( Cove) in the 1800's. It's raucous and ribald with an infectious chorus and a great history of those men who lived on the sea coming in for their respite of ale and women. Was the Holy Ground referencing the island of Ireland...….or a specific area of Cobh where the women were plentiful and available...….for a price? You listen and decide. Thank you for listening. Along the journey of this discussion we find out when and by who, a lot of modern hockey's rules and gameplay were first created by the likes of names of Art Ross and Lester Patrick. There's also some handshake line stories from great series in the past and thoughts on what the league might be like without this tradition in the future.Liam and Paul wrap up the show with their toast of the week with an Irish song. They discuss other times the league has been put on pause in the past and throw out different scenarios the way the league could save the current season if and when it returns.Liam reflects on the passing and career of Montreal Canadiens Henri Richard and touches on the his brother Maurice Richard and the famous Richard Riot of 1955 on St. Patrick’s Day, 65 years ago. The fellas wrap it up with a spot on some favorite Irish traditional songs, raise a toast and sign off with the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Maken singing “Fare The Well Enniskillen.”
