Laurell nasceu em Vancouver a 20 de abril de 1979. Poeta liricamente confiante, ganhou os seus méritos sobretudo como compositora de canções e compositora de várias participações no Festival Eurovisão da Canção. Depois das suas primeiras faixas para as artistas britânicas Holly Brewer ("I Wish I Loved You More") e Olivia Garcia ("Freedom Hearts") em 2017, que chegaram pelo menos às rondas preliminares da competição musical internacionalmente cobiçada, a canção "Stones" (2018) para a banda indie suíça ZiBBZ é a primeira canção da pena de Laurell a participar na ronda final. A artista sueca também recebeu um Prémio Juno na categoria de Melhor Gravação de Dança do Ano em 2018 pela sua contribuição para a faixa "Closer" de Nick Fioricci . em 2019, conseguiu o que nenhuma outra mulher tinha feito antes: Laurell conseguiu levar três canções para a ronda final do Festival Eurovisão da Canção - incluindo "You Got Me", do cantor suíço Luca Hänni, que alcançou o 4º lugar no final. Barker também se estabeleceu como artista a solo em 2021. Com o seu single de estreia "Habit" , a canadiana posiciona-se como uma talentosa intérprete de dance-pop.
