The Shaggs, an American rock band formed in Fremont, New Hampshire in 1965, consisted of sisters Dorothy "Dot" Wiggin on vocals and lead guitar, Betty Wiggin on vocals and rhythm guitar, Helen Wiggin on drums, and later Rachel Wiggin on bass guitar. The group was formed at the insistence of their father, Austin Wiggin, who believed in a prophecy that his daughters would form a popular band. In 1969, they released their album Philosophy of the World at Fleetwood Studios. Despite initial mockery and heckling from audiences, the band's unique sound garnered recognition, with notable fans including Frank Zappa and Kurt Cobain. They disbanded in 1975 following Austin Wiggin’s death. In the 1990s, their music gained cult status, influencing outsider music and twee pop. Dot and Betty reunited for shows in 1999 and 2017.
