Janiva Magness, born January 30, 1957 in Detroit, Michigan, is an American blues, soul, and Americana singer-songwriter and author. Initially inspired by her father's record collection, she attended an Otis Rush concert in her youth, which inspired her career. She began her recording career with the debut album More Than Live (1991), followed by It Takes One to Know One (1997) and My Bad Luck Soul (1999). Her subsequent releases include Blues Ain't Pretty (2001), Use What You Got (2003), and Bury Him at the Crossroads (2004). Her album Do I Move You? (2006) reached number 8 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart. She won the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year award in 2009. Her album Love Wins Again (2016) debuted at number 5 on the Billboard Blues Chart and received a Grammy nomination. By 2015, she received seven Blues Music Awards, including Contemporary Blues Female Artist.
