Vaso Devetzi was born on September 9,1925,in Thessaloniki, Kingdom of Greece, and was a Greek pianist. She studied at the Thessaloniki Conservatory, where she became a close friend of Maria Callas. Her musical career began in Greece in 1949, but a trip to France led to further study and opportunities under pianist Marguerite Long. She went on to establish an international career, performing across Europe, the Soviet Union, and the United States. She collaborated with prominent musicians including David Oistrakh and Mstislav Rostropovich and received the Grand Prix du Disque in 1963. In 1968, she performed Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto in Moscow with conductor Kirill Kondrashin. After Callas's death in 1977, she helped preserve her friend's legacy and co-founded the international Maria Callas Foundation in 1980. She died on November 1, 1987.
