The Swiss pop singer Beatrice Egli began singing as a child and eventually joined forces with the well known Swiss singer Lys Assia who had previously won the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956. The child singer under the guidance of her older mentor released the album 'Sag Mir Wo Wohnen Die Engel' which went on to have minor commercial success. The two singers began to make appearances at folk music festivals singing popular folk and schlager music songs, a combination which appealed to the conservative tastes of Swiss audiences.
Egli initially harboured ambitions to be a hairdresser but eventually enrolled at acting school prior to applying to appear on the German talent show 'Deutschland Sucht Den Superstar' where she went on to win first prize and a recording contract with Universal Music Group. Her winning song from the show titled 'Mein Herz' went on to top the charts in Germany, Switzerland and Austria and Egli went on to become a popular artist in Northern Europe selling more than one million records.
