Blutengel

The black scene emerged at the end of the 20th century from followers of dark wave. Death, philosophical themes, a gloomy appearance and a great deal of melancholy form the basis of the subculture - and Blutengel, which was founded in Berlin in 1998, is without doubt one of its most important representatives. Together with Kati Roloff and Nina Bendigkeit as vocalists, Chris Pohl, the mastermind behind the project, released the debut LP Child of Glass (1999). This was followed by Seelenschmerz in 2001, before Angel Dust , Blutengel's first long-playing record, entered the German album charts in 2002 (number 58). In the 2010s, Constance Rudert, who has since taken over from Nina Bendigkeit and Kati Roloff, provides the vocals for LPs such as The Oxidizing Angel (2005) and Labyrinth, which is released in 2007 and reaches number 36 in the sales lists in Germany, making it Blutengel's most successful record to date. The band, which is musically oriented towards wave, goth, synth and electro, released Schwarzes Eis in 2009, which even managed to reach number 17 in Germany. This was surpassed by its successor Tränenschmerz, which reached number 12 in 2011. Blutengel, who seemed to have found their first long-term permanent line-up in 2012, consisting of Chris Pohl, Ulrike Goldmann and performance artist Viki Scarlet, released Monument a year later. Not only did the album achieve a phenomenal fourth place in Germany - a Blutengel album also made it onto the charts in Switzerland for the first time (96th place). After follow-up records such as Save Us (2015) and Leitbild (2017) reached number 4 in Germany, Blutengel achieved their first second place in 2019 with Un:Gott . The 2021 release Erlösung - The Victory of Light was able to partially build on this success, working its way back up to fourth place in the German LP charts. In 2023, Un:Sterblich: Our Souls Will Never Die reached 4th place in Germany and 64th place in Switzerland. At the end of February 2025, Blutengel returned with Dämonen : Sturm.
