Founded in London, England in 1988, Londonbeat are a British dance-pop band originally formed by American singers Jimmy Helms, Jimmy Chalmers, George Chandler and British instrumentalist William Henshall. Their first single “There’s a Beat Going On”, became a top 10 hit in The Netherlands, followed by “9 A.M (The Comfort Zone)” which attained moderate commercial success in the United Kingdom, with both songs included on the group’s 1998 album Speak. However, it was dance hit “I’ve Been Thinking About You”, released on September 24, 1990, that became a world-wide smash, reaching number 1 in Australia, Canada, Germany and the United States and peaking at number 2 on the UK Singles Chart, attaining platinum status in three countries. The group released “A Better Love” in November that year, with both songs featuring on their second studio album In the Blood, released on September 29, 1990, attaining top 20 status across the United Kingdom and Europe and certified gold in Australia. The group followed this with their 1994 self-titled album Londonbeat. After an unsuccessful Eurovision bid in 1995, Londonbeat parted ways, regrouping in 2003 with a new line-up, releasing their fourth album Back in the Hi-Life in November that year, followed by Gravity in 2004. On June 14, 2019, Londonbeat released 30 Years, a collection of remastered and remixed hits spanning the course of their career.
