Biografie

The contemporary world of dub and reggae wouldn’t be the same without Prince Fatty (born Mike Pelanconi in London, UK), who has presided over his mighty mixing and production empire since 1996 and worked with some of Jamaica’s biggest names. Pelanconi has produced for a range of artists, including 1990s acid jazz purveyors and reggae legends like Gregory Isaacs, as well as indie rockers like Graham Coxon and popstars like Lily Allen. In 2005, he assumed the Prince Fatty moniker following a one-off commission for clothing company Stussy that involved writing the reggae-flavored radio hit “Nina’s Dance” to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Debut album Survival of the Fattest came in 2007 and featured contributions from a supergroup of reggae legends, including Little Roy, along with guest vocals from the likes of The Slits' Hollie Cook. A number of subsequent Prince Fatty albums followed, including 2012 Prince Fatty Versus the Drunken Gambler, which featured a guest appearance from reggae DJ and producer Dennis Alcapone, and latest album, 2019’s In The Viper's Shadow.
