Geri Halliwell is best known for being one-fifth of the '90s girl group sensation The Spice Girls. During their career they sold more than 85 million records worldwide, making them one of the most successful girl bands in history.

Halliwell started off her career as a glamour model and nightclub dancer. In 1994 she, along with Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Victoria Adams (now Beckham) and Melanie Brown, responded to an advert in 'The Stage' magazine for dancers and singers to form a band. They signed a deal with Simon Fuller of 19 Entertainment and became an official band in 1995. Their debut single 'Wannabe' rocketed them to fame and with their album 'Spice' both made it to number one. The albums 'Spiceworld' and 'Forever' followed, with hit singles 'Spice Up Your Life', 'Too Much' and 'Viva Forever' all claiming top positions in the charts. In 1998, after just four years, Halliwell announced her departure from The Spice Girls.

She launched her solo career with the album 'Schizophonic' with three of its four singles making the number one spot. 'Scream If You Wanna Go Faster', her second solo album, followed in 2001, and after the success of 'Schizophonic', she chose a cover as her lead single: The Weather Girls' 'It's Raining Men'. The song was used in the soundtrack to 'Bridget Jones's Diary' and peaked at number one. The following year she was asked to join the judging panel of the ITV talent show 'Popstars: The Rivals', alongside Pete Waterman and Louis Walsh, which ultimately created Girls Aloud. Her next album 'Passion' failed to excite the critics or her fans and she sought success through other ventures.

In 2007 The Spice Girls reformed and released an album of their greatest hits. They embarked on a tour, Spice Girls: Giving You Everything, but continued to focus on their solo endeavours. They performed as a quintet for the last time at the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. In 2011 Halliwell announced that she had been back in the studio putting the finishing touches to her fourth album, but the release was pushed back indefinitely. In 2016 Hailliwell, Brown and Bunton announced that they would be reuniting as a trio, with Chisholm and Beckham opting out of any such reunion. As well as working on new music for The Spice Girls, Halliwell continues to to progress with her fourth solo album.
