Biografie
A highly regarded indie singer-songwriter who announced himself on the scene with acclaimed debut album 'Harlem River' in 2013, Kevin Morby's cryptic, ramshackle, outsider Americana is packed with lo-fi charm and bundles of personal quirks. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, he got his first guitar as a Christmas present when he was ten-years-old and played drums in high school punk bands before moving to Brooklyn at 17 and throwing himself in to the DIY, experimental music scene of the time. He played bass with psych-folk act Woods and formed The Babies with his flat mate Cassie Ramone from punk girl group Vivian Girls, but after years of life on the road and the bustling chaos of New York he moved to Los Angeles and found inspiration in the tranquillity and peace of the hillside neighbourhood of Mount Washington. The stripped-back, lo-fi, delicate beauty of Harlem River gave way to the more rootsy spirit of The Band on follow-up 'Still Life' and he went on to play with two of his songwriting heroes Dennis Callaci and Simon Joyner on their joint album 'New Secrets'. His third album 'Singing Saw' confirmed his reputation as a talented, alternative folk troubadour and was placed high up on the end of year lists compiled by Pitchfork, Mojo and Uncut magazines, before he returned with the more funky, upbeat strut of 'City Music' in 2017, a love letter to urban living.
