Tom Howie and Jim Vallance, the members of Grammy-winning Canadian electronic duo Bob Moses, met at middle school in Vancouver but assembled the band in New York City in 2012. Jim Vallance cut his teeth as a trance and progressive house producer while also laying down Sia remixes and releases on Ultra Records. Tom Howie spent a year studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston before joining the rock band Coalition. The two acquaintances randomly crossed paths at the parking lot of a Lowe's hardware store and decided to begin making music together. Their debut EP as Bob Moses, Hands to Hold, came out the Brooklyn-based label Scissor & Thread in October 2012, with a follow-up EP, Far from the Tree, coming in October 2013. Bob Moses signed to Domino Records in March 2014 and released their debut album in 2015, Days Gone By, earning several Grammy nominations – including best dance recording – for the LP's guiding light, "Tearing Me Up," which also went to Number 16 on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart. In 2016, they performed live on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and that same year released a special Never Enough edition of Days Gone By, which featured remixes of "Like It or Not" and "Tearing Me Up" from prominent electronic artists including A-Trak, RAC, Joris Voorn, and Tale of Us. In 2017, Bob Moses received a nomination for Live Act of the Year at the Electronic Music Awards and the following year, released their second album for Domino, Battle Lines, which combined indie-rock and electronica. After dipping their toes into acoustic-only waters for their Unplugged EP in 2019, they dropped their third album, Desire, in 2020, which the band described as "a love tale for the digital age." Fourth album, The Silence in Between, arrived in 2022.
