Death of Guitar Pop is a musical duo consisting of two members, Silky and Jonny "Top Kat" Hick, both hailing from Essex, United Kingdom, known for creating a unique blend of Ska with influences from the 2-Tone style and Skinhead Mod Fusion. Their journey began with the self-release of their debut track and video, "Rickety Old Train," in November 16, 2016, which generated significant buzz among their fans who collectively funded their debut album 69 Candy Street in November 2017, with the band enlisting the talents of the horn section from Bad Manners (known as The Mafia), and legendary 2-Tone artist Neville Staple. Remaining true to the culture of the genre, the band insisted on managing themselves, relying once again on crowd-funding to record sophomore album In Over Our Heads (2019). Both albums sold thousands of copies, with the band drawing substantial crowds at summer festivals while also selling out their own headline shows and establishing a subscription-based fan club. In December 2019, the band collaborated with the CALM Charity and Bafta award-winning star James Buckley to raise funds and awareness for mental health through their Christmas single, "Feeling Like A Right James Blunt." The single achieved significant success, attracting significant streaming numbers and airplay and reaching number 28 on the mainstream charts. After the success of third album Pukka Sounds in 2021 and hit tracks like "Junkie Man" (2021) and "Bosh!" (2023), the duo dropped Be Lucky, in October 2023, which secured the number 30 spot on the Top 100 album charts in the UK.
