Mammoth, formerly known as Mammoth WVH, is the solo project of Wolfgang Van Halen, son of eminent guitarist Eddie Van Halen. A native of Santa Monica, California (USA), where he was born on March 16, 1991, Wolfgang Van Halen founded the band while still a bassist with Van Halen, seeking to create a project that would enable him to play all the instruments and develop his own musical voice. In the studio, he provides vocals, guitar, bass, drums and keyboards, while the touring line-up includes Frank Sidoris and Jonathan Jourdan on guitars, Ronnie Ficarro on bass and Garrett Whitlock on drums. The band, who chose the name Mammoth as a tribute to one of Van Halen's early names, play hard rock and alternative rock, with influences ranging from classic rock to more modern grunge-inspired rhythms. The debut album, Mammoth WVH, was released in 2021 to critical acclaim, reaching number 12ᵉ on the Billboard 200 and the top of several rock charts, including the single "Distance", which received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Song. After this introduction, the one-man band chose to simplify the band's name from Mammoth WVH to Mammoth to emancipate itself from its family heritage while paying homage to its roots, claiming it wanted to create an independent project capable of standing out while remaining true to the spirit of rock. The second album, released in August 2023, is titled Mammoth II, continuing the mix of powerful riffs, catchy melodies and modern grooves. In 2025, Mammoth released the singles "The End" and "The Spell", preceding the album The End in October.
