spunge was formed in 1994 in Tewkesbury, England, by Alex Copeland (vocals), Damon Robins (lead guitar), Chris Murphy (bass), and Jeremy King (drums). The group began performing locally and released the Kicking Pigeons EP in March 1998, followed by the single "Ego" in June 2000. Their debut album Pedigree Chump arrived on 1 March 1999, and Room for Abuse followed on 9 October 2000. In February 2002, spunge signed with B‑Unique, releasing The Story So Far on 26 August 2002; the album entered the UK Albums Chart at number 48. The lead single "Jump on Demand" peaked at number 39 on the UK Singles Chart and topped the Kerrang! TV chart for two weeks, while "Roots" reached number 52. After a falling‑out with the label, the band founded Dent'All Records in 2004 and released That Should Cover It! the same year. Subsequent releases included Room for Abuse 2006 (6 November 2006), the self‑titled spunge (12 November 2007), the fan‑selected compilation Greatest Hit…s (25 November 2013), and Hang On? (4 December 2014). The group continued touring and issued live albums Live in London (27 May 2016) and Live in 'nam… (Cheltenham) (7 October 2019).
