Sunidhi Chauhan – born in New Delhi, India on August 14, 1983 – is a Bollywood playback singer who is best-known for hits such as “Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi” (from the 1999 motion picture Mast) and “Mehboob Mere” (from 2000’s Fiza). She sings predominantly in Hindi but has also recorded songs in other languages including Punjabi, Pakistani, Marathi, Tamil, English, Telugu, Kannada, and Bengali. Her musical journey began when she became interested in music at a young age and started singing at the age of four. She performed at local gatherings and participated in competitions, eventually moving with her family to Mumbai and joining the Little Wonders troupe. She made her playback debut at the age of 11 with “Ladki Deewani Dekho” (from the 1996 film Shastra). With such a strong voice at a young age, she became one of the most popular young playback singers in the industry. Not content to focus on one genre, she began taking classical singing lessons in the hopes of appealing to a wider audience. Her Western music influences – including pop, rock, R&B, and hip-hop – allowed her to approach her singing in a more universal way. She came to prominence with 1999’s "Ruki Ruki Si Zindagi" (taken from the film Mast) which was the first in a series of popular recordings including "Mehboob Mere" (from 2000’s Fiza), "Dhoom Machale" (from 2004’s Dhoom), "Kaisi Paheli" (from 2005’s Parineeta), "Deedar De" (from 2005’s Dus), and “Beedi” (from 2006’s Omkara). Continuing to be an extremely popular playback singer into the 2010s and 2020s, her later hits include “Sheila Ki Jawanie” (from 2010’s Tees Maar Khan), "Clara My Name is Clara" (from 2021’s Laabam), "Two Two Two” (from 2021’s Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal), and “Ra Ra Rakkamma” (from 2022’s Vikrant Rona).
