American teen pop idol Aaron Carter began his ascent to fame in the late '90s, right around the time his older brother Nick Carter was reaching international stardom with the boy band The Backstreet Boys. Born Aaron Charles Carter on December 7, 1987, in Tampa, Florida, he began performing at age 7 and released his debut single, a cover of The Jets' "Crush on You," in 1997, followed by the release of his self-titled studio debut later that year. Despite not entering the pop charts in the US, the album did crack the Top 10 in Scandinavia, obtaining gold certification in Norway and Denmark thanks to singles such as "Crazy Little Party Girl" and a cover of the Beach Boys' "Surfin' USA." Preceded by the hit singles "I Want Candy," "Aaron's Party (Come and Get It)," and "That's How I Beat Shaq," his breakthrough album Aaron's Party (Come and Get It) was released in 2000 by the Jive label and peaked at Number 4 on the Billboard 200, establishing him as one of the most popular teen stars in North America. In 2001, Aaron Carter made his acting debut on the Disney series Lizzie McGuire and made his first Broadway appearance in the Seussical musical. That year, he issued his third full-length Oh Aaron, which featured guest spots by his brother Nick and the group No Secrets on the title track. After releasing the album Another Earthquake! (2002) and the compilation More Requested Hits (2003), Aaron Carter put his music career on hold and became a staple of American reality TV, appearing in the shows House of Carters (2006), Dancing with the Stars (2009), and Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off (2012). He resumed his musical endeavors in 2013 with the After Party Tour, and released the EPs The Music Never Stopped (2015) and Love (2015) before dropping his fifth album Love in 2018. Blacklisted, his final studio effort, appeared on November 7, 2022—two days after he was found dead at his home in Lancaster, California.
