Jackie Lee is an Irish singer born on May 29, 1936 in Clontarf, near Dublin, known for her clear, expressive voice that left its mark on the British pop scene of the 1960s. Initially a member of several vocal ensembles, including The Raindrops, she took part in numerous recording sessions as a backing vocalist, collaborating with artists such as Dusty Springfield and Tom Jones. Alongside her studio work, Jackie Lee embarked on a solo career, achieving fame in 1968 with "White Horses", the theme song for the children's TV series The White Horses, which became an instant classic in the UK (No. 10), acclaimed for its melodic sweetness and elegant interpretation. In 1970, she scored another hit under the pseudonym Jacky with "Rupert" (#14), the opening song of another children's TV series, The Adventures of Rupert Bear. Her ability to combine vocal sophistication with pop accessibility made her a singular figure in the British musical landscape of the time. Although her career was relatively discreet and she gradually withdrew from the limelight in the 1970s, Jackie Lee remains a cult artist, appreciated for the delicacy of her interpretations and her contribution to English pop culture, particularly in the world of children's music and television.
