Fatima Al Qadiri is a Kuwaiti musician and conceptual artist who was born in 1981 in Dakar, Senegal. She returned to Kuwait at age two and later moved to the United States to continue her studies. Al Qadiri gained notoriety in 2010 with the mini-mix “Muslim Trance” (2010), produced under the stage name Ayshay. Her debut studio album, Asiatisch, was released (2014) through the label Hyperdub, followed by the albums Brute (2016), Shaneera (2017), and Medieval Femme (2021). She often explores themes of Arab culture and her childhood experiences during the Gulf War. Al Qadiri is a member of the group Future Brown, a collaboration with Asma Maroof, Daniel Pineda, and J-Cush. In 2023, she released the ambient EP Gumar (2023), featuring the single “Mojik (Your Waves)” (2023). Her contributions to film include the soundtracks for Atlantique (2019) and La abuela (2021), the latter of which earned her a Goya Award nomination in 2022.
