Biography

With their renowned sunny disposition and mission to spread positivity and happiness wherever they go, San Francisco indie outfit The Mowgli's unashamedly deal in glorious, sun-kissed singalongs and wholesome, retro folk-rock goodness. Named after the lead character in Rudyard Kipling's novel 'The Jungle Book', the band came together in 2009 after old school friends Andy Warren, Matthew Di Panni and Dave Appelbaum grew tired of playing in melancholy rock groups and teamed up with front-woman Katie Earl and set out to revamp the jangly West Coast, guitar pop of The Mamas and the Papas, Buffalo Springfield and The Byrds.

Singer Colin Dieden and guitarist Josh Hogan later completed a settled line-up and, after cutting their teeth playing sets in small bars in Los Angeles, they self-released their debut album 'Sound the Drum' in 2012. Signing a deal with Photo Finish Records, their single 'San Francisco' became a popular radio hit and landed them spots on 'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' and 'Jimmy Kimmel Live', and soon the San Francisco Giants baseball team were using the track as a club anthem as they completed a successful season by winning the World Series. As they toured the US and played slots at major festivals, their second album 'Waiting for the Dawn' drew comparisons to more contemporary acts such as Of Monsters and Men and The Lumineers and they set up a website that encouraged their fans to partake in random acts of kindness whenever they could. Other big band anthems included singles 'I'm Good', 'Say It, Just Say It' and 'The Great Divide', and they remained full of joyous, summery, good-time spirit on the album 'Kids in Love' in 2015 and EP 'I Was Starting to Wonder' in 2018.
