Soothsayers

Soothsayers, a London-based band, was formed in 1998 by saxophonist Idris Rahman and trumpeter Robin Hopcraft. The group's early years were spent performing in South London venues, developing a style influenced by South African township musicians and instrumental reggae artists. Their debut album Lost City was released in 2000 on their own label Red Earth Records. In 2012, Soothsayers notably released Human Nature, which showcased their unique three-part harmony vocal style and was featured on Gilles Peterson's Best of 2012 show. The band signed to Wah Wah 45s in 2017, releasing the album Tradition (2018) the following year. Soothsayers have performed at major festivals such as Rototom Sunsplash, the North Sea Jazz Festival, and Glastonbury Festival.
