Alicia Bridges, born Alicia Bridges on July 15, 1948 in Charlotte, North Carolina, is an American singer. From a young age, Bridges showed a talent for music, learning to play the guitar at ten and hosting her own radio show, The Alicia Bridges Show, by twelve. Her early career began with two single releases on Nashville-based Mega Records in 1973. Despite initial lack of success, she caught the attention of Bill Lowery, who became her manager and helped her sign with Polydor in 1977. Bridges's self-titled debut album, produced by Steve Buckingham, was released in 1978 and featured her international hit "I Love the Nightlife (Disco 'Round)". The song spent 27 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 5, and achieved significant success internationally. Bridges received a Grammy nomination for this work and performed it as the opening act. Her music was particularly popular in Japan, where she received an RIAA Certified Gold Record for over one million copies sold in the United States and a gold record from Canada. Following the release of her second single "Body Heat" in 1979, Bridges continued to perform at Atlanta dance clubs in the 1980s and 1990s. In 2006, Alicia Bridges Music Publications was founded, producing three albums including This Girl Don't Care (2006), Say It Sister (2007) and FauxDiva XX (2008).
