Born in Newark, New Jersey on May 5, 1975, Raheem DeVaughn is a Grammy-nominated R&B and neo-soul singer and songwriter. He is the son of jazz cellist Abdul Wadud and cousin of R&B singer Chrisette Michele. Raised in Maryland, he began to show interest in music in preschool. Inspired by artists like Babyface, he began pursuing a musical career while attending college in Baltimore City. He recorded some demos and began playing venues on the Washington, DC club circuit. After gaining a local following, he was approached by the manager of Baltimore-based R&B act Dru Hill and asked to write a song for the band. In 2002, Raheem DeVaughn signed a recording contract with Jive Records. His first album, The Love Experience, was released in 2005. Love Behind the Melody, his second album, was released in 2008 and achieved critical and commercial success. Reaching the number 1 spot on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, the album featured the tracks “Woman” and “Customer”, both of which earned Grammy nominations. Raheem DeVaughn won three BET J Award in 2008. His third album, The Love & War MasterPeace (2010), was his last for Jive Records. The album was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B album. He has continued to release albums independently including The Love Reunion (2019), What a Time to Be In Love (2020), and Lovesick, a 2021 collaboration with hip-hop producer Apollo Brown. Raheem Devaughn’s next album, Back 2 Love (2022), was a collaboration with Bee Boy$oul. In November 2023, he returned with more romantically inclined songs on the album Fall In Love, which included the single “Let’s Fall In Love.”
