Biography

Formed in Los Angeles, California in 1996, Ra – led by singer/songwriter/guitarist Sahaj Ticotin - was initially formed as a nu-metal band but evolved over time into an edgier alternative metal/post-grunge outfit. Their first official release was the song “Crazy Little Voices”, which appeared in the 1999 film The Rage: Carrie 2. They signed with Edel Music and began recording their debut album but as the sessions came to an end, the label shut down before they could release it. In 2000, the band self-released their track “Do You Call My Name” to radio, which became a significant ‘hit’ in Boston, Massachusetts. Their debut EP, One, was released independently and earned the band commercial attention. Signing with Universal Records, the band released their debut album, From One, in October 2002. A re-recorded “Do You Call My Name” was the first single and climbed to Number 14 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart. The album’s second single, “Rectifier”, hit Number 30. The band’s second album, Duality (2005), reached Number 2 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. Ra left Universal Records and started their own Sahaja Music label, releasing the 2006 EP Raw. Their third full length album, Black Sun, was issued in 2008. The album Black Sheep, released in 2009, was a collection of rarities. After a five year wait, the band released their fourth studio album, Critical Mass, in 2013. The band returned in October 2020 with their single “Intercorrupted”.
