The American rapper Babyface Ray was born Marcellus Register in Detroit, Michigan, on February 7, 1991. While still attending high school in the city's east side, he joined the hip-hop collective Team Eastside and began releasing material alongside fellow rapper Peezy in 2014. MIA Season, his debut mixtape, helped kick off his solo career the following year, with "Gt X Mia" — a collaborative track recorded alongside Detroit native G.T. — quickly emerging as the record's most popular single. Albums like 2017's Ghetto Wave and 2019's MIA Season 2 continuing to position him as a new leader of Detroit's hip-hop scene, as did a well-received appearance on 42 Dugg's single "The Streets" in 2019. Two years later, he cracked the Billboard charts for the first time with Unfuckwithable, then released a deluxe version of the same record — this time featuring appearances by rap stars like Jack Harlow — later that same year. Another studio album, Face, followed in 2022, with Babyface Ray turning to unlikely sources like Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" for the album's diverse collection of sound samples. Face reached Number 31 on the Billboard 200 and was immediately followed by another record, Mob, which reached Number 54 on the same chart later that year.
