Maeta knows what it’s like to find yourself drawn into a relationship you probably shouldn’t stick with. She bristles at the word “toxic” when describing it but there are few other words to connote the messy back-and-forth she’s had with the person who has inspired so much of her music. “Like my music, it feeds me,” she says of the rollercoaster romance she had with her ex. “It’s all I sing about.”
She digs deep into the ups and downs on her new EP, a raw and sensual exploration of the type of intoxicating lust that feels too good to not be some form of love. Over 13 songs, Maeta envelops you into the whirlwind of emotions her and this guy put each other through, with a star-studded roster of friends and collaborators helping elevate this rising talent to pop star status. The single “S(EX)” serves as the perfect introduction, a track written by none other than Kehlani. While the Lucky Daye & Free Nationals assisted single “Through The Night” serves as the perfect follow up.
Now that the EP is out in the world, Maeta is hard at work on her debut album. She’s been doing sessions all over the world with industry heavyweights: from LA to New York to London. She even had time in Miami carved out for sessions with Pharrell.
As she puts it: “I have a feeling it’s gonna be an amazing year.”
