Biography

Although born in Traralgon, Australia, on April 17, 1976, Gord Bamford later moved to Canada, where he became one of the nation's most award-winning country singers during the first two decades of the 21st century. Raised by an artistic mother who encouraged her son to pursue his musical goals, Bamford made his solo debut with 1996's "Forever Starts Today," an independent single that received lackluster attention in Canada. Although the reception for his debut album, 2001's God's Green Earth, was similarly lukewarm, 2004's Life Is Good proved to be a genuine success, earning Bamford seven nominations from the Canadian Country Music Association. Honkytonks and Heartaches followed in 2007 and produced the artist's first Top 10 hit on the Canadian country charts, "Blame It On That Red Dress." The record was nominated for "Country Album of the Year" at the Juno Awards, as was its follow-up, 2010's Day Job. Both records were co-produced by Bamford and Byron Hill, kickstarting a fruitful partnership that continued with 2012's CCMA Award-winning Is It Friday Yet? The two worked together yet again on 2013's Country Junkie, an album that earned Bamford one chart-topping Canadian hit ("When Your Lips Are So Close"), two Top 10 singles ("Unreal" and "Where a Farm Used to Be"), and a Juno Award nomination for "Country Album of the Year." He landed two more Top 10 singles with "Don't Let Her Be Gone" and "Heard You in a Song," both of which were released on 2016's Tin Roof, then topped the Billboard Canada Country Chart for the second time with the Neon Smoke track "Dive Bar" in 2018. Diamonds in a Whiskey Glass followed in 2021, featuring the Top 40 hits "Diamonds In A Whiskey Glass," "Heaven On Dirt," "Drink Along Song," "Just Let Go," and "I Ain't Drunk." His second album of the 2020s, Fire It Up, followed in 2023, supported by singles like "One Heartbeat From Heaven" and the number 56 hit "Canadian Dirt."
