Biografía

Brian Bromberg is an acclaimed American jazz musician who played drums as a child until he settled on the bass in acoustic and electric forms as well as the piccolo bass. Known for playing smooth jazz utilising the tapping technique developed by Stanley Jordan, he has recorded renditions of rock and pop songs including the album 'Bromberg Plays Hendrix' which reached number 17 on the Billboard Jazz Albums Chart in 2012. His career was affected for a few years by a spinal problem but he returned to his peak in 2016 with the album 'Full Circle' on which he plays drums and bass.

Born in Arizona, he followed his brother and father on the drums until he switched to the bass in his teens. He played locally with various bands until Bill Evans's bass player Marc Johnson heard him and alerted Stan Getz who needed a bassist and, at the age of 19, Bromberg commenced six years touring with the legendary saxophonist. He made his recording debut on 'New Day' in 1986 followed by 'Basses Loaded' (1988), 'Magic Rain' (1989), 'BASSically Speaking' (1990), 'It's About Time: The Acoustic Project' (1991) and 'Brian Bromberg' (1993). His 1998 release 'You Know That Feeling' made its way onto the Billboard Jazz Albums Chart and reached number 40. 'Wood' (2002) went to number 46, 'Choices' (2004) number 30, 'Wood II' (2006) number 47, Grammy Award-nominated 'Downright Upright' (2007) number 22, 'It Is What It is' (2009) number 19, 'Compared to That' (2012) number 19 and 'In the Spirit of Jobim' (2012) number 37. His 2016 release 'Full Circle' peaked at number 21. He has had eight singles on Billboard's Smooth Jazz Songs Chart with three top ten hits: 'Cantaloupe Island' (2007) which reached number three, 'Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?' (2012) which went to number five and 'Ellen' (2013) which peaked at number nine.
