La Autoridad de la Sierra formed in 2004 as a duranguense-focused Regional Mexican group that emerged from a splinter tied to the K-Paz de la Sierra orbit and established its base in Chicago’s then-booming duranguense scene. The band moved quickly into recording and released its debut album 100% Autoridad Duranguense in 2005, a launch that carried them onto Billboard’s Latin charts and put them in the national conversation alongside the genre’s mid-2000s breakout wave. Later in 2005 they followed with Gracias Rigo, keeping a fast album pace that matched their touring-driven profile. In 2006 they broadened their catalog with releases including Momentos Inolvidables and Leña Verde y Muchos Éxitos Más, and that same period brought a major industry milestone when they won Premio Lo Nuestro’s “New Soloist or Group of the Year” honor in 2006. Through the late 2000s, La Autoridad de la Sierra continued issuing studio projects and genre-focused sets such as Corridos (2007), Todo Cambió (2008), and Lo Tienes Que Saber (2009), reinforcing their identity around dancefloor-ready duranguense arrangements and romantic narratives typical of the style. In the streaming era, the group kept its legacy active with compilations like THE BEST OF (2023) while also releasing new singles, including the seasonal cut “Hoy Ví a Santa Claus Besar a Mi Mamá” (2023) and a companion version featuring El Morro.
