Tomoyasu Hotei is a popular Japanese rock singer and musician who first gained fame as a member of the band Boowy, who had many hits in the 1980s. After they broke up, Hotei pursued a solo career starting with the album 'Guitarhythm', which went to number two on Japan's Oricon albums chart in 1988. Many studio albums followed over the years. 'Guitarhythm II' (1991) topped the chart, 'Guitarhythm III (1992) and 'Guitarhythm IV' (1994) reached number two, 'King & Queen' (1996) went to number one, 'Guitarhythm V' number five, 'New Beginnings' (2014) number four and 'Guitarhythm VI' hit number three in 2019.
He has released several compilation albums including 'Guitarhythm Forever Vol. 1', which topped the Japan albums chart in 1995 and concert releases including 'Space Cowboy Show' (1997), which peaked at number three. Two of his singles have topped the Japan Oricon singles chart: 'Beat Emotion' (2091) and 'Thrill' (1995). 'Deja Vu' (1990), 'Surrender' (1994) and 'Bambina' (1999) reached number two.
His tracks appear in video games and on many movie soundtracks including 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' (1998) and 'Kill Bill Vol. 1' (2003). He has performed around the world and collaborated with artists such as Iggy Pop, Ray Cooper and Zucchero Fornaciari. He played with the Rolling Stones in the last performance of their 2014 Japanese tour and he has played venues in New York and London. For his 35th anniversary as a performer he went on a major tour around Japan in 2016. His single 'Give It to the Universe' featuring Man with a Mission came out in May 2019. His 2019 schedule was to include appearances at venues across Japan.
