Markus Leoson (born 1970) is a Swedish classical and contemporary classical percussionist and cimbalom player from Linköping. He began his musical training at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm in 1986. Leoson joined the Royal Opera Orchestra as a percussionist in 1990 and was appointed solo timpanist in 1993. His career as a soloist followed his win of the Swedish Soloist Prize in 1995, which led to engagements with various European orchestras. Leoson premiered 60 contemporary pieces, many of which were dedicated to him by international composers. His discography includes the albums Percussion (1998) and Marimbolino (2002). In 2008, Leoson became a professor at the Franz Liszt Hochschule für Musik in Weimar, Germany. He performed with ensembles including the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.
