Mohammed Osman Hassan Salih Wardi, known as Mohammed Wardi, was born on July 19, 1932 in Sawarda, Northern Sudan. He began his musical career in Khartoum in 1953 and recorded his first songs with Omdurman Radio the following year. In 1957, he gained national recognition when chosen by Omdurman Radio to record on a national broadcast alongside notable singers such as Abdelaziz Mohamed Daoud. Wardi's repertoire included romance, folklore, heritage, revolution, and patriotism. He performed using various instruments, including the Nubian kissar, and sang in both Arabic and Nubian languages. Following a military coup in 1989, Mohammed Wardi left Sudan for exile but returned in May 2002. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Khartoum in 2005. Mohammed Wardi died on February 18, 2012.
