Maria Dimitriadi was a Greek singer and politician born in 1950 in Tavros. She was the daughter of the singer Aphrodite Manou. Her musical career was closely associated with prominent Greek composers including Mikis Theodorakis, Thanos Mikroutsikos, Stavros Xarhakos, Giannis Markopoulos and Manos Hadjidakis. During the early 1970s, she toured Europe with Theodorakis while Greece was under a military dictatorship. Dimitriadi recorded her debut single, “Ένα πρωινό”, with Xarhakos. In 1974, she returned to Greece and began a long-standing professional relationship with Mikroutsikos. Dimitriadi also pursued a political career and served as a municipal councilor in Tavros for the Revolutionary Communist Movement of Greece. In 1980, she signed with CBS Records and launched a solo career. Between 1991 and 1993, she lived and worked in Yugoslavia. Dimitriadi died in 2009 in Athens.
