American country singer Tim
McGraw, born Samuel Timothy McGraw on May 1, 1967 in Louisiana, bridged the gap
between country and pop and built a lucrative career. He learned the guitar as
a kid and dropped out of college in 1989 to pursue a music career. His self-titled
debut album came out in 1993, but made little impact. That would change with
his 1994 follow-up, Not a Moment Too Soon, a number one country album
that would start one of the more amazing chart successes in country music
history. Of his next thirteen albums, released between 1995 and 2017, eleven
would go to number 1, another would stall at 2, and the other would reach
number 3. Additionally, all of them would reach the top 10 of the regular album
chart as well with Not a Moment Too Soon, 1999’s A Place In the Sun,
2004’s Live Like You Were Dying, and 2007’s Let It Go hitting
number 1. Over that same stretch of time, he notched twenty-seven number 1
country singles, with twenty of those, including nuggets like 1994’s “Don’t
Take the Girl”, 1997’s “It’s Your Love”, 1999’s “Please Remember
Me”, 2002’s “Unbroken”, and 2007’s “Last Dollar (I’ll Fly Away)”
also placing in the top 40 on the pop radio chart. He married fellow country
superstar Faith Hill in 1996, often recording with her, acted in numerous
movies, and scored multiple major industry awards. He took the longest layoff
between records to that point in his career with the three-year gap between
2017’s The Rest of Our Life and 2020’s Here On Earth, but the
first single from that album, I Called Mama”, was yet another top 40
country hit.
