Cutting a dash as a fresh-faced pop troubadour, Scottish musician Paolo Nutini (January 9, 1987) goes beyond the bounds of most singer-songwriters, peppering his songs with tinges of ska, jazz scat rhythms, and the jauntiest of melodies. Born in the town of Paisley, he was brought up on a diet of his grandad's soul records and started out as a roadie selling t-shirts for Glasgow rockers Speedway before penning his own songs. Scruffy and authentic enough to make it onto festival bills, yet doe-eyed and melodic enough to woo the pop crowd, singles “Last Request” and “Jenny Don't Be Hasty” bathed in sun-drenched romance and sent debut album These Streets (2006) to Number 3 in the UK charts. Support slots with the Rolling Stones and the use of several of his songs in US TV shows Scrubs, CSI: Miami, and Grey's Anatomy increased his worldwide profile before his second album Sunny Side Up (2009) went to Number 1 in the UK and produced the hits “Candy” and “Pencil Full of Lead.” Preceded by the single “Scream (Funk My Life Up),” 2013’s Caustic Love also topped the charts in the United Kingdom upon its release and saw him embark on an extensive promotional tour throughout North America, Europe, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. In the following years, Paolo Nutini took a well-deserved hiatus from his professional career and returned in 2022 with the full-length Last Night in the Bittersweet, his third consecutive LP to claim the top spot on the UK Official Albums Chart.
