Brazilian pop-rock troupe Jota Quest formed in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in 1993. They scored a hit three years later with "As Dores do Mundo," a cover of the 1975 track by Bahian soul artist Hyldon. Comprising Rogério Flausino (vocals), Marco Túlio (guitar), Márcio Buzelin (keyboards), "PJ" Paulo Roberto Diniz, Jr. (bass) and Paulinho Fonseca (drums), the band blazed a trail in Brazil with their soul-influenced sound. Beginning with J. Quest in 1996, Jota Quest released eight studio albums for Sony BMG that included two triple-platinum offerings – 1998's De Volta ao Planeta and 2000's Oxigênio – and the double-platinum Discotecagem Pop Variada (2002). 2005 saw the release of Até Onde Vai, which spawned the electronic-tinged major hit "Além do Horizonte," a cover of the 1975 track by Brazilian singer Roberto Carlos. The album, which was nominated at the 7th Annual Latin Grammy Awards, spawned a number of other radio-friendly hit singles, including "O Sol," "Palavras De Um Futuro Bom" and "Já Foi." Three more studio albums followed; the gold-selling La Plata in 2008, Funky Funky Boom Boom in 2014 and Pancadélico in 2015. In addition to their eight album-strong repertoire, Jota Quest also notched up five compilation albums, including 2011's Quinze, which was awared the Latin Grammy for Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album in 2012. The band released the live album Acústico in 2017, and a handful of subsequent singles. In 2020, Jota Quest unveiled a new single; "A Voz do Coração," featuring Brazilian rapper Rael.
