In 1994, hip-hop-minded R&B girl group Total – a.k.a. Kima Raynor, Keisha Spive and Pamela Long – sung the soulful hook on what would become one of hip-hop's most iconic songs, "Juicy" by the Notorious B.I.G. Catapulted into the spotlight, the trio – who had formed in Planfield, New Jersey earlier that year – were snapped up by Bad Boy Records CEO Sean "Puffy" Combs for their debut album. The group scored high with their debut single, "Can't You See?," featuring the Notorious B.I.G, with the track peaking at Number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number 2 on the R&B Chart. Total's platinum-selling self-titled debut album was released in 1996 and it peaked at Number 23 on the US Billboard 200, generating a slew of hit singles; "Can't You See," "No One Else," "Kissin' You" and "Do You Think About Us"/"When Boy Meets Girl". In the two years prior to the release of their second album, Total notched up a string of Top Ten R&B hits, including 1997's "What About Us?" with Missy Elliott and Timbaland, and provided a feature on Mace's 1997 single "What You Want." The group's second album Kima, Keisha, and Pam arrived in 1998, which was certified gold and spawned hit single "Trippin" featuring Missy Elliott. The trio made their last official outing as Total on a collaboration with Da Beatminerz and Talib Kweli in 2001. In 2014, Long and Dyson reunited and began performing as a duo under the Total name.
