Biography

Notable for explosive storms of furious metal, giant, stadium-crumbling anthems and good-time, pop-punk pogo-frenzies, Asking Alexandria grew from screeching, adolescent emo upstarts into one of the UK's most successful modern hard rock groups.

Guitarist Ben Bruce was originally born in South London but moved to Dubai as a child and started the band with friends after discovering metal icons like Metallica and Pantera and 1990s pop punk acts such as Green Day and Papa Roach. At the age of 17 he headed back to the UK with the band but, after recording one album together, the other members began drifting away and Bruce found himself in York with new musical cohort Danny Worsnop.

Guitarist Cameron Liddell, drummer James Cassells and bass player Sam Bettley completed the revamped line-up and, after touring America's hard rock circuit with Evergreen Terrace and Alesana, they unleashed a ferocious torrent of angst and slamming, grinding thrash on the album 'Stand Up and Scream' in 2008. Steadily building their reputation as a scorching force of post-hardcore, metal rage, they went on to reach number nine on the US Billboard charts with follow-up 'Reckless & Relentless' in 2011, and trekked their way across 14 different countries on an epic 100-date tour.

Despite their success, the burden took its toll on front man Worsnop who began drinking heavily and ruptured his vocal chords; by their third album 'Death to Destiny' the band was unravelling. Worsnop was replaced by Ukrainian singer Denis Stoff on 2015's 'The Black' and the band's sound grew into earnest, atmospheric arena rock thunder as they made the UK top 20 for the first time and supported Bullet for My Valentine on their US tour. With old rifts beginning to heal, Worsnop made a surprise return to the band in 2017 and the old friends attempted to make a fresh start with new album 'Asking Alexandria' and a huge joint headlining tour with Black Veil Brides.
