Jack Antonoff, better known as the lead singer and guitarist in indie rock band Fun, decided to branch out in 2014 and started a new project he called Bleachers. While he was on tour with Fun, Antonoff started writing music inspired by the 1980s and 1990s films of John Hughes including The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Uncle Buck. The music in these films appealed to Antonoff's creative side and produced Bleachers' debut single "I Wanna Get Better." The single topped the Billboard Alternative Songs and Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles Charts. Their debut album Strange Desire was released in 2014 to critical acclaim and Bleachers set out on tour. The compilation Terrible Thrills, Vol. 2 followed in 2015, and was promoted as a companion album to Strange Desire. Straight back into the studio, Gone Now, their third album, was released in 2017. Preceded by the singles "45," "Chinatown," "Stop Making This Hurt," and "How Dare You Want More," Bleachers' third full-length studio LP Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night came out in 2021. The album reached number 27 on the Billboard 200 and also charted in Canada, peaking at number 69. After featuring on Lana del Rey's "Margaret" from her 2023 album Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, Bleachers returned in 2024 with a self-titled album released via British indie label Dirty Hit.
