Zsela (ZHAY-la) quietly keeps a creative pace that consistently bubbles then erupts into bursts of beauty. With her forthcoming debut album, co-produced with Daniel Aged and Gabe Wax, she has defined a significant space of reflection. Full of duality — at once strong and fragile — the album sees the whole with keen emphasis on the small parts that make it so: swaying, simmering and sweating itself into heady, art pop splendor.
Zsela made her entry with 2019's mesmerizing single, “Noise,” that Hypebeast claimed “hits you like a fiery gust of wind,” followed in 2020 by the self-released Ache of Victory EP, which the New York Times described as “at once earthy and otherworldly…her voice clings to her melodies like liquefied amber.”
Between then and now, Zsela has shared stages with Cat Power, Caroline Polachek, Angel Olsen and Arooj Aftab, as well as captivated with performances at the likes of Carnegie Hall and The Natural History Museum in both Los Angeles and New York City.
Of Zsela, Pitchfork once noted there were “plenty of signs that her formidable voice will enter the pantheon of greats in a matter of albums.” With her imminent 2024 debut, Zsela takes a leap.
