Biography

Westside Gunn is an American rapper and record label co-founder who often collaborates with his family members Conway the Machine and Benny the Butcher. He was born as "Alvin Lamar Worthy" on July 27, 1982, in Buffalo, New York. Although his debut mixtape, Flyest Nigga in Charge Vol. 1, arrived in 2005, Westside Gunn's career was stalled by a series of skirmishes with the local police. He revitalized his career in 2012 by launching his own label, Griselda Records, alongside his brother Demond Price (also known as "Conway the Machine") and fellow rapper Mach-Hommy. Hitler Wears Hermès, Westside Gunn's first mixtape for Griselda Records, was followed by yearly releases like 2014's Hitler Wears Hermès 2 and 2015's Hitler Wears Hermès 3. After releasing a full-length studio album, Flygod, in 2016, Westside Gunn reached Number 7 on the US Heatseekers Albums chart with 2018's Supreme Blientele, then climbed to Number 67 on the all-genre Billboard 200 with his third release, 2020's Pray For Paris. He also signed with Shady Records, a long-running rap label founded by hip-hop icon Eminem. His sole release for the label, Who Made the Sunshine, charted at Number 64 on Billboard's Current Albums Sales format. After Who Made the Sunshine's arrival, Westside Gunn reclaimed his independent status with another string of releases on Griselda Records, including several new entries in his Hitler Wears Hermes mixtape series. Westside Gunn reached a new commercial peak in 2023, thanks to the release of his fifth record, And Then You Pray for Me. The album peaked at number 29 on the Billboard 200 and number 8 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, giving Gunn his first Top 10 release on the hip-hop chart.
