Born February 16, 1982 in Buffalo, New York, Demond Price is best known as the American rapper Conway The Machine. Most commonly referred to Conway, the US rapper has suffered from Bell’s palsy after being shot in the back and neck in 2012, of which the resulting paralysis left him with a unique rap-vocal delivery style. Conway started to release music on Griselda Records, the Buffalo-based label established by his half-brother, rapper Westside Gunn in 2015. After the label signed a distribution deal with Eminem’s Shady Records, Conway released the album G.O.A.T., which featured the prestigious rap talent of Raekwon, Prodigy, and Lloyd Banks. It was in the same year that Conway, along with his brother, was featured in Complex’s 17 Artists to Watch in 2017 list. The accolade was promptly followed up in 2019 when Conway, alongside the Griselda Records rappers Westside Gunn and Benny The Butcher, was nominated in the Best Group category at the BET Awards. Conway followed this up with the album From King to a God, which was well received by the music press, along with the single Bang, which featured Eminem. Over the next few years, Conway the Machine continued showcasing his unique wordsmith skills over grimy beats on albums such as God Don't Make Mistakes (2022) and Won't He Do It (2023), his first release after his departure from Griselda. Palermo, a joint album with German beatmaker Wun Two, came out in 2024 and marked Conway's first entry into the German charts, peaking at number 19.
