Descended from a line of Senegalese griots, Doudou N'Diaye Rose (1930-2015) has devoted his life to the knowledge and teaching of percussion. This passion, which pursued him since childhood, led to a long career as a master drummer in 1960, followed by teaching, performing and conducting. A national glory in Senegal, this rhythm expert gained international recognition with the album Djabote (Real World, 1991), produced by Eric Serra. Chef-tambour of the Ballets nationaux de Dakar, he also took part in the music for Peter Gabriel's film La Tentation du Christ (1988) and composed the music for Karmen Geï (2000). The musician, classified by UNESCO as a "Living Human Treasure", died on August 19, 2015 at the age of 85.
