Biography

Commonly known as the "Prince of Bachata," Dominican singer-songwriter Frank Reyes was born Francisco López Reyes on June 4, 1969, in Tenares, Hermanas Mirabal. Renowned for his contribution to the bachata genre, he is a seven-time "Bachata of the Year" winner at the Soberano Awards. He found his musical calling at an early age, forming a group with his brothers. At 12, he moved to Santo Domingo, working a series of odd jobs before deciding to pursue a music career. His journey to stardom began with the his 1991 studio debut Tú Serás Mi Reina, featuring hits like "Como Fui a Enamorarme de Ti" "Voy Pa' lla," which sparked a debate with fellow singer Anthony Santos over its authorship. Frank Reyes continued to release successful albums like Si El Amor Condena, Estoy Condenado (1993) and Bachata Con Categoría (1994), the last one to feature themes of heartbreak and deceit. In 1998, he completely revamped his style on the album Vine a Decirte Adiós, featuring hit songs like "Muy Lindo Amor" and "Me Dejaste Abandonado." His 1999 album Extraño Mi Pueblo and subsequent releases continued to cement his reputation, with chart-topping hits and awards. His 2004 album, Cuando Se Quiere Se Puede, is widely regarded as one of his best, winning Album of the Year at the 2005 Casandra Awards and spawning hits such as "Voy a Dejarte de Amar" and "Quién Eres Tú." He also continued to innovate with live albums and collaborations, like the 2005 release From Santo Domingo Live and the bachata hit "Princesa," his first number 1 entry on the Billboard charts. Over the following years, Frank Reyes not only extended his catalog with albums like Te Regalo el Mar (2007), Soy Tuyo (2012), and Noche de Pasión (2014) but also collaborated with the new generation of bachata artists such as Alexandra and Romeo Santos. Devuélveme Mi Libertad, his eighteenth studio album, came out in 2016 and was followed by Aventurero (2021) and three volumes of the retrospective Mi Historia Musical, all released in 2023.
