Tibor de Machula

Tibor de Machula, born on June 30, 1912 in Kolozsvár, Austria‑Hungary, was a Hungarian cellist. He began studying with Adolf Schiffer in Budapest and debuted as a soloist with the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra at age 12. After being invited to study at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, he returned to Europe and served as solo cellist for the Berlin Philharmoniker under Wilhelm Furtwängler from 1936 to 1947, then for the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam until his retirement in 1977. His recordings include Rosamunde Music / Kol Nidrei and Schumann: Klavierkonzert = Piano Concerto / Cellokonzert = Cello Concerto with the Berlin Philharmoniker. He died on December 18, 1982 in Utrecht, Netherlands.
