1 Giant Leap is a British electronic music duo that emerged from London, formed in 2001. The group comprised two collaborators, Jamie Catto and Duncan Bridgeman, who crafted a multimedia project blending electronic, trip hop, house, and world music influences. Their breakthrough came with the self-titled debut album 1 Giant Leap, released in 2002, which introduced audiences to a project combining music, film, and spoken-word contributions from a wide range of artists, including Dennis Hopper, Kurt Vonnegut, Michael Stipe, and Brian Eno. The single "My Culture", featuring Robbie Williams and Maxi Jazz, became their first top-ten hit in the UK and received extensive airplay. A review for NPR's All Things Considered described the project as a cohesive collection of images, ideas, and world music flowing with the voices of three continents. In 2004, the duo struck a deal with Simon Fuller and 19 Entertainment to create a second album and film, What About Me?, released in 2009, expanding on the same concept with a longer, four-year journey and twice as many contributing artists as the debut. 1 Giant Leap's two projects remain notable examples of early 2000s British electronic and world music crossover work.
