The Sutherland Brothers, comprising Gavin and Iain Sutherland, were a Scottish folk and soft rock duo hailing from Aberdeenshire. Born on October 6, 1951, in Peterhead, and November 17, 1948, in Ellon, respectively, the brothers initially gained traction in 1968 as A New Generation with the single "Smokie Blues Away" before transitioning to the Sutherland Brothers Band. Their first album was released in 1972 under Island Records, featuring early hits like "The Pie". In 1973, they joined forces with rock band Quiver, forming Sutherland Brothers & Quiver and achieving their breakthrough with the single "(I Don't Want to Love You But) You Got Me Anyway", which reached number 48 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their collaboration yielded several notable albums including Dream Kid (1973), Beat of the Street (1974), and Reach for the Sky (1975). The group's most significant success came with "Arms of Mary" in 1976, which topped charts in Ireland, the Netherlands, and Belgium. After parting ways with Quiver by 1979, the Sutherland Brothers continued as a duo until their disbandment later that year. Iain Sutherland passed away on November 25, 2019, at the age of 71.
