Jay Wheeler, born José Ángel López Martínez on April 25, 1994, in Salinas, Puerto Rico, is a singer, songwriter, producer, and dancer known for his blend of reggaeton, pop, and urban music. He began his career posting covers on social media before officially debuting in 2016 with "Ahora Estoy Mejor." Over the next few years, he released a string of singles, including "Más que tu amigo", "Si te atreves", and "No es normal", followed by hits like "Mia", "Imagínate", and "No me olvidas." After signing with Dynamic Records in 2018, Jay Wheeler dropped fan favorites such as "Olvídalo" and "Un pecado." His 2019 debut album Platónico, featuring Farruko, set the stage for his 2020 follow-up Platónicos, which charted on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums. He gained further recognition with "La curiosidad" alongside Myke Towers and scored nominations at Premios Tu Música Urbano and Latin Grammys. In 2022, he released two albums — El amor y yo and Emociones, collaborating with artists like Jhayco and Mora. His 2023 project Trappii and 2024's Música buena para días malos showcased his evolving sound. Along the way, Jay Wheeler earned multiple awards, including Premios Juventud and Premios Lo Nuestro, cementing his place in the Latin music scene. In 2025, the single "Una Como Tú" reached number 19 on the Billboard Latin Pop Airplay chart. Later that year, Jay Wheeler released GIRASOLES, a 15-track album that included “Roma,” “Abrázame Fuerte,” “La Vida y Sus Cosas,” “Una Como Tú” and “Nota” with Omar Courtz. “Roma” earned him a 2025 Latin Grammy nomination for Best Urban/Urban Fusion Performance, while he also joined Aitana on “Duele Un Montón Despedirme De Ti” from her album Cuarto Azul. His 2025 collaboration with J Balvin, “Si Te Vas,” became a major chart moment in 2026 when it reached Number 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart, giving Jay Wheeler his third leader on that ranking. That year, he also performed as part of the Arcángel tribute at Premio Lo Nuestro and opened a new phase with “De Lejitos,” the lead single from La Voz Favorita. Released in 2026, the 24-track album mixed trap, R&B, reggaetón and romantic urbano, with guests including Mora, Luar La L, Marcelo Rubio, Deimi and Kennyy.
