Vanusa Santos Flores, known simply as Vanusa, was a Brazilian singer-songwriter and actress whose career spanned several decades, beginning in the late 1960s. Born on September 22, 1947, in Cruzeiro, Brazil, she showed an early talent for music, performing with the band Golden Lions at just 16. Her break came in 1966 when she gained national attention on the popular Jovem Guarda TV show, later signing with RCA Victor and scoring her first hit with "Pra Nunca Mais Chorar." Vanusa released her debut album Vanusa in 1968, where she began showcasing her songwriting talent. Her 1973 self-titled album featured the iconic song "Manhãs de Setembro," which remains one of her most beloved hits, followed by "Paralelas" in 1975. She expanded into acting with roles in telenovelas like Cinderela 77 and Marron Glacé. In 2015, Vanusa returned to music after a 20-year hiatus with the album Vanusa Santos Flores, produced by Zeca Baleiro. Despite health challenges in her later years, including struggles with dependency and dementia, she remained a respected figure in Brazilian music. Vanusa passed away on November 8, 2020, in Santos, Brazil, leaving behind a legacy of classic Brazilian pop and deeply personal songs.
